How To Maintain Your Gut Health?

Gut health is a very important aspect of our body as more than half of our immune system is in our GI tract. If you have a healthy gut, it means that you have a better immune system, a better mood, and better digestion. It is important to maintain a good gut system as it is effective in decreasing inflammation and risk of chronic disease and increasing metabolism and promoting a healthy brain and heart.

Here are some ways to keep your gut healthy –

Eat fiber-rich food:

Fiber is a nutrient that stimulates the growth of good bacteria and reduces the risk of metabolic disease. Sweet potato, spinach, carrots, fruits, vegetables, etc. are natural sources of gut-enhancing fiber. Whole grains are another source of fiber. You should consume fish, oats, barley, etc. that are rich in fiber and help things to move through.

Do exercise:

Exercise is one of the best ways to keep your body healthy and fit. It is effective in the diversification of healthy bacteria in the gut. If you exercise, your colon is also affected which helps to regularise the bowel movement. It can also help to normalize irritable bowel symptoms.

Manage Stress:

Stress negatively impacts your body including the gut. You should always try your best to control your stress. Meditation, yoga, walking, diffusing essential oils, reducing intake of caffeine, etc. have shown effective results in stress and anxiety management.

Get proper sleep:

Not getting enough sleep may have a serious impact on your gut health which can lead to sleep issues. Always try to get 7-8 hours of peaceful sleep. Consult the doctor if you face any trouble sleeping.

Limit alcohol and caffeine intake:

Alcohol leads to intestinal inflammation and also gastric problems, heartburn, chronic discomfort and ulcer, and bacterial infections. Drinking too much alcohol and caffeine can lead to an unhealthy gut, so you should try to limit it.

Drink water:

Drinking 8 glasses of water is a good way to start. Staying hydrated promotes gut health.  It has been observed that drinking water has a good effect on the mucosal lining of the intestine and maintains a balance of good bacteria in the gut.

Chewing properly and eating slowly can ease the digestion process and absorb the nutrients from the food. It can also reduce digestive discomfort and maintain a healthy gut.

Look over food intolerance:

If you experience bloating, cramping, abdominal pain, etc. it is a possibility that you may be suffering from food intolerance. You may look out for food that triggers such symptoms and eliminates them. If you can identify the food, you may change your eating habits.

Conclusion

You should make sure that your gut is healthy otherwise various problems like irritable bowel syndrome, internal bleeding, cuts, blockages in the bowel, etc. can occur. If your doctor finds out something unclear about your gut, he/she might ask you to get CT Scan or Enterography done.
