Full Body MRI Screening

This is a screening tool to provide an insight into your current health status underneath the skin. It images the body’s vital organs and shows some functions such as the major blood vessels in the brain. In a full body screening, various major organs are imaged to detect any disease. MRI Scan (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure using a strong magnetic field without ionizing radiation that makes it completely safe. It forms pictures of the body’s organs and diagnose disease.

A Full Body MRI Screening can answer:

1. Concerns about your health
2. Inexplicable symptoms affecting daily life
3. Congenital or hereditary health issues unknown to you
4. Infections and soft-tissue concerns in the pelvic or abdominal region

If a person is above 18, a full-body scan is an important screening tool to ensure awareness of underlying health issues. The full-body scan can detect neurological, musculoskeletal, cancer, and general abdominal and pelvic issues.

What does the Full Body MRI Screening covers

Head and neck: To image the brain for possible tumours, stroke, multiple sclerosis, dementia,
haemorrhages, brain aneurysms, etc.

Spine: To detect spinal tumours that grow off nerve sheaths, fractures, cord compressions,
slipped or herniated discs.

Chest: To detect any gross abnormalities in this region.

Abdomen: detect abnormalities in the pancreas, liver, kidneys, adrenal glands, gall bladder,
aorta, tumours, and abnormal fluid collections.

Pelvis: detect abnormalities within the bladder, gynaecological issues in women, and prostate in men.

Please note that this will be a non-contrast scan.

Limitations of the Full Body MRI Screening

A full-body scan has certain limitations as do all other diagnostic tools and
procedures - hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, or knees, ankles, feet, hips, lungs and the heart are not included although some images will include humeral and femoral heads, and a few images of the heart through images of the chest. For the lungs, a CT scan is the best option. Please also note that these scans are done for screening purpose and if your clinician has referred you for a specific scan then it may be appropriate to do a separate scan. Please discuss with your clinician if you are unsure.
